I am extremely in favour of deconstructing internalized book snob ideas, and of letting go of reading targets! my life got way better once I divested from the idea i'd been raised with that reading is ethically good in itself, and that reading some types of things is intrinsically better than others. 🕊

Hahaha, good headers1! :)

I'll give you in exchange for the Lemony Snicket rec, my The Borrowers, by Mary Norton rec. Not to be confused with The Littles. I remembered loving them as a kid, and wanting to be tiny and live in the walls a sleep in a matchbox, so I got them out a couple years ago and did not regret it. Surprisingly suitable for adults.

And thank you for confirming my rejection of House of Gucci. I will not watch it, thank you, thank you.

Oh, and regarding Princess Diana, here's an obscure fact: the morning after I finished my Masters Thesis (in France) in which I trace the history of the Rape of Lucretia and the rape of Philomela and how they spoke up about it, I woke up to hear that Diana had been killed in a car crash. My first thought was "They finally killed her." My next action was to open the doc, and dedicate my thesis to her, as "a woman who would not have her voice suppressed." For all she was, right or wrong, she would not be silenced, and she's up there in the pantheon of women who piped up against the Man.

And now I am dying to have a welsh rarebit with an egg on it!
