Un Petit Update
An excerpt from my forthcoming novella and a new book review are available to read now
It’s an off-week for Why’s World, but I still have some writing to share with all of you.
First, something I’m really excited to announce: I’m self-publishing a novella! While I’ve been in the novel draft trenches for the past three years, this summer I took a break from that project and instead banged out a novella I’ve had sitting in my mind for a long time. It’s called Amy of Suburbia and follows a 12-year-old girl in 2007 who is obsessed with Green Day. It may or may not be the most autobiographical thing I have ever written, and that’s including non-fiction.
While the full novella won’t be available for a few months, the first chapter was recently featured as an excerpt in the latest issue of Zine Obscura. You can purchase a copy on the Label Obscura Bandcamp page here. The issue also features interviews with Sook-Yin, Divorcer and Seth Smith, as well as a flexi-disc single, all for the low price of $5. Thrilling!
I also have a new book review up on PRISM. I reviewed Made-Up: A True Story of Beauty Culture Under Late Capitalism, written by Daphné B. and translated by Alex Manley for Coach House Books. Read it here.
I hope that’s enough #content to keep you satisfied until next week when I’ll have a super special new essay for the newsletter. Until then!
Thanks for reading! Make sure to subscribe to never miss a newsletter and to like, comment, and share it if you enjoyed it: it really helps me find more people interested in my writing. You can find me in the meantime on Goodreads, Letterboxd, Twitter, and Instagram.
Yesssssssssssssss. All good shit! Congrats!
Amazing, Alanna! I read the review and will save the excerpt for another day.
