Happy summer to all the loyal Why’s World readers!
While this newsletter has been on pause due to my #GradSchoolLife, I plan to post a bit more this summer with a new long-form book review of one of my favourite recent non-fiction reads, as well as a personal essay (or two) coming up soon in the pipeline.
Until then, you can still get a fix of content with a recent interview I did on the new podcast Make Art Until U Die.
Hosted by my brilliant friend and fellow writer Kat Rogue, this podcast seeks to showcase “marginalized and lesser-known artists who produce incredible work with little or no financial incentive.”
In my episode, we talk about the perils of writing a first draft, the joy/struggle of editing, the embarrassment of art-making, getting rejected from creative writing school, what makes good media criticism and finding sustainability in the working-class writer life.
The tone ranges from deep cynicism to unexpected optimism, with lots of laughs and swear words along the way. Check it out on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
(Psst - Ottawa friends: Kat is having her book launch this Thursday, July 11 at Venus Envy. Find the event details here.)
K love you bye!
